Because a mind is a terrible thing to use.
I thought about killing myself when I finally admitted to myself that I was gay. Probably, hundreds of thousand of others in America do similarly. Thousands follow through.
Last week, an 11 year old in Georgia killed himself because of relentless anti-gay bullying at school. This follows a similar suicide in Massachusetts by another 11-year-old who suffered constant homophobic taunts at school. Were they gay? Who knows? But that’s not the point.
In modern American culture, it is still OK to be bigoted against gays. It is still socially acceptable to preach hate, call us sinners or unnatural, and teach children that homos are bad. Why?
One word: religion
Meanwhile… Ivy Leaguer `infiltrates’ Falwell’s university
Kevin Roose managed to blend in during his single semester at Liberty University, attending lectures on the myth of evolution and the sin of homosexuality, and joining fellow students on a mission trip to evangelize* partyers on spring break.
…
Formed in 1971, Liberty now enrolls more than 11,000 residential students, along with thousands more who study through Liberty’s distance-learning programs. The university teaches creationism and that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, while pledging “a strong commitment to political conservatism” on campus and a “total rejection of socialism.”
Moronic does not even begin to describe this trash. Somehow, these people have been brainwashed into believing that their fairy-tales are more real than reality. Or they really are just stupid.
“myth of evolution” – sorry, evolution has been repeatedly and independently verified as valid. The evidence is overwhelming. Humans are nothing more than another type of primate. A phenomenally destructive one, but a primate nonetheless.
What evidence is there for creationism? None. Creationism is simply an interpretation of a set of documents that has been shown to have changed over time. Which brings me to…
“the Bible is the inerrant word of God.” – well, if that is the case then why has it been demonstrated to have not only changed through time, but that multiple versions of the same books still exist? Does this “god” change it’s mind a lot or simply have a multiple personality disorder? Not to mention there is no evidence for a divine origin. Only hearsay.
Just how gullible are these people? And how arrogant to claim that their evidence-free mythology is more valid than someone else’s? I guarantee they’d be singing a different tune if they had been born in Saudi Arabia or rural India.
“sin of homosexuality” – yeah, whatever. Teaching this should be a crime against humanity, let alone nature. How many millions of people have suffered because of these evil religions? How many kids must be bullied because of it?
So, in short, morons can send their kids to this “university” so they can be brainwashed into believing things that are imaginary and into denying things that are real. It’s just … so … amazing.
The great thing about reality is that nature doesn’t care what you believe. Believing the Earth was flat didn’t make it so, believing the sun revolved around the Earth didn’t make it so, believing that humans magically appeared doesn’t make it so and believing that homosexuality is unnatural doesn’t make it so. While I’m at it, denying global warming won’t make it go away either.
Live in fantasy land if you must, but stop trying to rub everyone’s face in it.
* Recruit. Funny how they are guilty of everything they accuse us of.

My heart goes out to the unfortunate gays who find themselves there, sent by their parents, petrified every time they have a homoerotic thought.
Rob: I agree that bigotry and hate are objectively wrong and ought to be socially unacceptable. While it is true that historic (not revivalist) Christianity does not view homosexuality as proper sexuality, to “hate” the homosexual for being that way is not good.
Humanity universally falls short of what and where it should be. Charlie
I hate religion. What a waste of time, money, and people’s lives.
I read the book The Unlikely Disciple. It was a good read. The thing, with the exception of the religious indoctrination/brainwashing is just how normal those students at Liberty University are. The author noted that there were more than a few people who didn’t agree with everything that went on at Liberty. Some rebelled in their own creative ways. And regardless of being a so-called “Christian University” these good “Christian” college students were doing what ALL college students do, namely: Looking to get laid, or are getting laid.
Having written that though – Organized religion is pure hokum. All of it – every last chant, prayer, gospel, story, doctrine, etc. On it’s face, it’s illogical and incoherent. Dig a little deeper and it’s truly bat-shit crazy stuff man. Just crazy.
Give it up for George Carlin – he had it right. Religion is the biggest scam ever.
